Originally, it could only be seen from the viewpoints on the ridge above so it was "hidden" until viewed from the outer edges of the Gardens. Later, when the Gardens were expanded and stone paveways were built to the pool it was no longer "hidden".
Cascade Mountain in the Background
Visitors love sitting on the benches surrounding the pool. In the early days, before the trees grew, you could see the Cascade Mountains in the distance.

Hidden Pool 1955
This classic photo shows the Hidden Pool shortly after being built in the early 1950's. Most of the rocks shown are now covered with ground covering plants and it is hard to see how many were in the original landscape.
Spring Blooms 1950's
The hilltop in the Gardens turned into a sea of pink as the Phlox bloomed in early May and it could be seen throughout the valley.
Vista House Reflection
Reflection with Vista House in the background. Hidden Pool used to be called "Reflection Lake" by some for obvious reasons. You can still see amazing reflection today.
